All stocked up!

Hi friends! How is your week going? It's been a busy one here. I ended up working late Friday at the Rec center trying to get us caught up from Christmas with scheduling. I do not normally do any extra hours as I still have my orders to complete when home, but Friday I didn't have to so it worked out. Only issue was I brought no food :(

Luckily my hubby came to the rescue. Not only did he go home and let the girls out and check on them, but he brought me lunch. With a quiet room and food in the belly I was able to get all caught up! Such a great feeling :)

Friday night we took the opportunity to watch a couple documentaries on the U.S. Netflix. Did you know you can get that now?! We watched The Engine 2 documentary and Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Both were very good. It really gave us the new year reality check we needed to clean up the fridge and pantry which still procured crap from the holidays. We both agreed we need to cut way back on the cheese, drop the highly processed goods, start really watching our labels, and to load up on more fruits and veggies. We stocked (and dropped off) some boxes for the food bank and did a thorough clean.

Today we went for lunch to a place that just opened here called Costa Vida. It's a Mexican place and it was SO good! The food is super fresh and pretty clean. They have salads, taco's, quesadilla's, burritos and enchilada's among other items. I had the shrimp taco on whole wheat. They give you your taco's separate and on the plate the fixings for you to add. I had mango chutney, guacamole, pico de gallo, black beans and rice with a side of ranch jalapeno dressing.

Not the best photo, but seriously delicious. This is definitely my favorite second to sushi! Love the freshness. Sorry Mucho Burrito but you just don't compare!

After lunch we went for groceries- a big order. It was nice, as I usually do this task alone. I menu planned for the week and we bought accordingly. We kept it pretty clean with lots of fresh goods. The loot;

A lot of this will last us for a long time, but it was a staples order, as well as perishables.

This is what the weeks meal plan looks like. I'm using 4 recipes from my Forks Over Knives cookbook (beefed up with extra veggies) and 2 dessert ones from my Clean Eating cookbook. Finger's crossed they are good ones :)

In other exciting news, I sent away for Maya's Dog DNA test! I bought the kit ages ago and have been meaning to do it, and I finally did!

I'm so freakin' excited! We guess that she has possible lab, shepherd, chow or even pitty but who knows, she is a Rez dog so it could be anything!

That's about all that is new around here this week. Tomorrow I'm doing some meal prep, laundry and catching up around the house. Exciting huh?

My blood work got bumped to this Tues, and I didn't make gym time this week. I was on my legs a lot and my vein was pretty sore. I hope to get in some extra walking this week. I'm down 6lbs this week since getting back to better eating :)

I'm changing my blog days to Sat & Tues. I work both jobs Mon, Wed, and Fri so it wasn't the brightest of my idea's ;)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and thanks for checking in <3

Have you seen any good documentaries? Which one has impacted you most?

  1. Whoa Whoa Whoa! We can get US Netflix now?? My sister's boyfriend sent me a link that he uses and he pays $5 a month for a US I.P. address. I was thinking of doing that but hadn't looked into it further.

I love all these documentaries. I haven't seen the Engine 2 diet one but Forks Over Knives and Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead got me off the meat and dairy. Forks was the meat and Fat was the dairy.

I had no idea they could DNA test dogs like that! Very cool.

  2. Yes, and the US Netflix has so many options that were not available before!! I am about to start up Grey's Anatomy....I hear it's good :) I'm cutting way back on dairy and really the only thing that I'm having is cheese. Just very small portions a couple times a week. I've eliminated milk, cottage cheese, sour cream etc though.(Except when we eat out as there are already very few options where we live.)

    1. I'm on it. Hehe - I watched the first half of season one of Felicity. I was so in love with that show a million years ago.

I'm the same way. I usually end up having dairy when I go out and lately I've been putting a little feta in my quinoa salad. So good.

  3. When i first saw your groceries, I think whoa, healthy LOL...but then I see your menu plan and I'm like, I can learn from Natasha! We are all starting to eat healthier, for example, last week I had a salad every week, didn't veggies, some chicken sometimes etc...by Friday, I was so sick of salad...I want other options..the problem I hate..as much as I want to eat healthy, I find it much more expensive...anyways, that is my goal for the year...or at least first 6 mths...to eat healthier and explore new options! I will be checking in daily!

    1. Hey Stacy,I agree that it is more expensive to eat healthy for some things (like berries out of season) but I find if I shop around and stick to the items that are on sale that week, I don't do too badly. It's all worth it in the big picture though right? For us I try to make regular meals but bulk up all of them by adding fruit and veg to them or a side. I do love a good salad, but I can't eat them every day either. The trick for me is to never have the same salad back to back. I try to mix up types of lettuce, different veggies, or fruit, different proteins and dressings. I try to keep them interesting! Thanks for checking in and I hope you can find some idea's to help your family eat healthier :)
